THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress Working Committee member Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the central government was playing petty politics in the Wayanad disaster that shook the state. He also said that the Centre's decision not to declare the Wayanad landslides as a national disaster was a gross injustice towards the people of Wayanad.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally visited the landslide-hit areas where nearly 500 people were killed. The Centre should allocate money to help and rehabilitate the affected victims. The issue in Wayanad will not end by asking the state to be content with the small portion of the money received by all states for disaster relief. The Centre should stop playing politics in this matter. It should announce a special amount and a special package for rebuilding Wayanad," Chennithala said.

"It is a humanitarian thing to help those in distress. The central government should declare the Wayanad landslides as a national disaster and allocate special packages accordingly," he said.
