THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM state secretariat will meet today and tomorrow to prepare a draft of the document to be presented at the party’s extended state committee meeting in Kozhikode from September 13 to 15. The state committee, scheduled to meet on August 7 and 8, will give the document its final shape.
The draft is unlikely to include the reasons for the party’s electoral defeat, according to indications. The state leadership maintains that the election review report was approved by the state committee after discussions at the grassroots level. The lapses and reasons for the defeat have been specifically mentioned in the review report, it points out.
The objective is to take the party forward by identifying the mistakes that need to be rectified. The state committee has assessed that the organisation has weakened in several places. The aim is to prepare an action plan to overcome these weaknesses and bring about changes in the party in line with people’s expectations.
However, second-rung leaders in the party leadership are of the view that the extended state committee should discuss the issues that contributed to the electoral defeat, as well as the lapses on the part of the state leadership.
