'If there is no criticism of me, then what kind of meeting is it? We all need to correct ourselves'

KOZHIKODE: CPM state secretary M V Govindan said the discussions at the party's extended state committee meeting were healthy. He also acknowledged that sharp criticism and self-criticism were raised against both the central and state leaderships.

Responding to criticism directed at him, Govindan said criticism was an essential part of the party's functioning.

"If there is no criticism of me, then what kind of meeting is it? We all need to correct ourselves. The party will become stronger through such corrections," he said.

"Criticism and self-criticism are part of CPM state committee meetings. The discussions at the state committee were aimed at helping the party correct itself. Another important objective of the meeting was to shape a democratic Kerala with a secular outlook," Govindan said. He added that the CPM leadership was not surprised by such criticism.

"At present, 19 comrades have participated in the discussion. The report itself says that our connection with the people has weakened. The party will intervene in cases of illegal accumulation of wealth. A common platform should be formed at the national level against central agencies. All districts are discussing the ED issue," Govindan said.
