ALAPPUZHA: The Motor Vehicle Department will question the owner of the car that was involved in the accident in Kolercode, which claimed the lives of five medical students. According to the Motor Vehicle Department officials, the car owner did not have the license to give his car for rent. The officials said that the owner would be summoned and questioned to find out if the car was given to the students for rent.
It has been found that the 2010-registered vehicle did not have a rent-a-car or rent-a-cab license. The car owner needs to clarify under what circumstances the vehicle was provided to the students.
The car belongs to a native of Kakkazham in Ambalappuzha. He told the media that he gave the car to the students in the name of his friendship with them. Kannur native Muhammad Jabbar, who died in the accident, was the one who contacted him for the car.
The accident took place at Changanassery Mukku in Kalarcode at around 9.30 pm yesterday. The Chevrolet Tavera car, which was travelling from Vandanam to Alappuzha side, collided with a KSRTC fast passenger bus coming from Guruvayur.
