NEDUMBASSERY: India’s leading Urologist, Dr George P Abraham (77), was found hanging in his farmhouse late Sunday night. George, a maven in his trade, had successfully performed more than 50,000 surgeries, including 3300 kidney transplants. He was an exemplar in this domain and was treated as an idol by scores of doctors across the nation.
Dr George P Abraham was the Head of the Urology Department and Senior Transplant Surgeon at Ernakulam Lakeshore Hospital for 24 years. He was unassuming and compassionate towards his patients and a doyen in performing crucial surgeries.
In the suicide note recovered, George had expressed his worry about old age affecting work and said that he was missing the old satisfaction he drew from work. He was a native of Elamkulam in Ernakulam.
The body was found hanging near the stairs leading to the upper floor of GP Farm House in Thuruthissery behind Nedumbassery Golf Course on Sunday night. Police got the CCTV footage of the doctor returning to the farmhouse with a plastic rope at 8 pm on Sunday.
After the house services at 1 pm on Tuesday, George will be buried at the St. George Jacobite Syrian Church, Cheruthottukunnel, near Infopark Phase 2, Brahmapuram. George leaves behind his wife, Daisy George; son, Dr. Datsun P. George (Transplant Urologist, Lakeshore Hospital); and daughter-in-law, Rhea Datson (Journalist).
“Old age is affecting my work. My hands are shivering all the time. I have lost satisfaction even while performing surgeries. So, it is time to end it all.”, from the suicide note.
