THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Censor Board allowing A certificate for movies instead of removing scenes depicting brutality is a grave disservice to society. Makers of a recently released movie even dared to share a video of a woman vomiting inside a theatre while watching some gore scenes from it. This was even used as promotional material. Even when such atrocities continue, the censor board remain a mute spectator.
If the Censor Board decides that children should not watch a particular film, it is up to the film producer and theater owners to enforce it. The Censor Board has all the authority to monitor and take action. However, nothing productive has been done so far.
It was only after the Venjarammoodu massacre that the theatre owners adopted a stern position to not allow children watch U/A certified movies. However, the same movies will soon hit OTT, and nobody will be there to stop the kids from watching it.
The Central Censor Board has a 36-member panel. Five people, including the censor officer, watch every film reaching them. Film-makers, critics, social workers, journalists and people involved in art are included in the panel. All are nominees of the ruling party.
