KOTTAYAM: The court has granted bail to the accused in the government nursing college ragging case. The Kottayam District Sessions Court pointed that the accused were granted bail considering their age. The court also considered that they had not been involved in any crimes earlier.

The charge sheet was filed in the case a few days ago. The charge sheet said that what happened was sheer brutality and that those who should be role models for medical services, brutally harassed the juniors. There are five accused in the case.

Samuel Johnson, Rahul Raj, S N Jeeva, N V Vivek and Rijil Jith are the accused in the case. They are addicted to drugs. The accused had harassed the junior students for about four months. The investigating officers mentioned in the charge sheet that the accused enjoyed seeing the students in pain.

The crucial evidence in the case is the footage of the accused harassing the junior students. The visuals were captured by the accused themselves. The police conducted a scientific examination of it. In addition, information related to ragging was obtained from the mobile phones of the accused.

The charge sheet said that neither the hostel authorities nor the college authorities were aware of the ragging. There are a total of 42 witnesses in the case. The accused had repeatedly taken money from the complainants to buy liquor. The police took the accused into custody on the night of February 11 and their arrest was recorded on February 12. The high court had earlier rejected the bail pleas of the accused.
