KANNUR: Noted Mappilapattu singer Peer Mohammed died here Tuesday. He was 75. He died of old age ailments early this morning at his house in Muzhappilangad in Kannur. He played an active role in popularizing Mappilapattu.
Peer Mohammed, who started singing at the age of four, recorded songs at the age of seven. He had recorded over ten thousand songs in his musical career later. He has organized many Mappilappattu ganamelas. Vyloppilly Sreedhara Menon had lauded his brilliant vocalist skills. Peer Mohammed, who was a member of Janata Troupe along with his friends, later started his own troupe in Thalassery.
