THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Two more doctors from the general hospital were suspended after findings emerged about them taking bribes to issue health cards. Dr. Ayesha and Dr. Govind were the latest to get suspended. Earlier, general hospital RMO Dr. Amitkumar was suspended for engaging in bribery regarding health cards. It was after the direction from minister Venna George that the health department jumped into action.
The health cards were made mandatory for hotel staff to ensure hygiene in food practices. Following this, anyone ready to pay certain amounts was easily rewarded with a health card in the capital city by doctors of high repute. The ill practice reached the health minister's ears, who immediately called for action against those maligning the profession.
