The absence of football legend Cristiano Ronaldo's mother and siblings from his wedding to long-time partner Georgina Rodriguez has sparked questions. Ronaldo and Georgina recently got married in a private ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, after 10 years together.
Apart from Ronaldo and Georgina, only their children- Eva Maria, Mateo, Alana, Bella and Cristiano Jr.- and four witnesses were present at the wedding. Ronaldo's mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his siblings, Hugo, Elma and Katia, were absent from the ceremony. Speculation arose after a Portuguese television presenter suggested that they may not have been invited to the wedding or may have been informed about it only at the last minute. However, Dolores reacted with a heart emoji to an Instagram post shared by Ronaldo after the wedding.
Ronaldo has often spoken about the sacrifices his mother made while raising him in difficult circumstances and the major role she played in his success as a footballer. There are also reports that she lives with Ronaldo and his family. Despite this, criticism has emerged over Ronaldo allegedly not inviting his own mother to his wedding.
Portuguese television presenter Cristina Ferreira raised the issue on the popular programme Dois às 10. She alleged that there could be serious issues behind the family's absence from the ceremony. According to her, the family may not have known about the wedding until moments before it took place, or may not have known about it at all. However, Ronaldo and his family members have not responded to the matter so far.
The wedding certificate, which later emerged, listed the details of those present at the ceremony. Ronaldo's long-time friend Miguel Paixão, Georgina's sister Ivana Rodriguez, Spanish jeweller Jose Rodriguez Sangil and his wife Monica Gonzalez Martinez were named as the four witnesses.
