NEW DELHI: Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has landed in a social media controversy after screenshots of alleged private chats and personal photographs claiming to be his went viral. However, the authenticity of the circulating images and messages has not yet been established.
The alleged chats and photographs began circulating on X and other social media platforms around November 1. The posts include messages purportedly linked to Gurnoor Brar and a photograph of a semi-naked man. However, there is no credible evidence to confirm that the images or messages belong to the cricketer.
Some social media users have pointed to similarities between the chain worn by the person in the viral photograph and one seen in pictures previously shared by Brar on Instagram. This has led to speculation about his involvement. However, others have argued that similarities in jewellery alone cannot establish someone's identity. The source of the photographs and messages remains unknown. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also not issued any official statement on the controversy.
The 26-year-old fast bowler from Punjab made his international debut for India in an ODI against Afghanistan on June 13 this year. He made an impressive start to his international career, taking three wickets for 27 runs in his debut match. Brar has so far taken 14 wickets in international cricket at an average of 41.50. He has also represented Punjab Kings in the IPL. Gujarat Titans acquired him ahead of the 2025 season.
