Attack off Oman: Indian sailor killed, 27 crew rescued

TEHRAN: An Indian seafarer was killed after the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier MV Cape Dao came under attack off the coast of Oman while sailing towards India. The deceased was identified as Suraj Yadav, a native of Uttar Pradesh. There were 28 crew members on board, including 20 Indians. Nineteen of the Indian seafarers were rescued, while Yadav died in the attack. Omani authorities said 27 crew members were rescued and evacuated to safety.

The vessel was reportedly hit by two torpedoes, according to the Forward Seamen's Union of India (FSUI). The attack caused a fire in the engine room, according to Omani authorities. The Indian Embassy in Muscat confirmed Yadav's death and said it was coordinating with Omani authorities on the safety of the crew. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack and said the embassy was coordinating with Omani authorities for the early repatriation of the rescued Indian seafarers.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and efforts are under way to ensure the safe return of the rescued Indian seafarers.
