Train attacked in Ukraine; Boris Johnson

KYIV: A Ukrainian train with a diplomatic delegation including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson went through a scare following a drone attack from Russia. The incident occurred at the Yahodyn railway station on the Ukraine-Poland border. The former British prime minister had a narrow escape. Reports indicate that no one was injured in the incident. The attack happened as the delegation was returning to Poland following a security meeting in Kyiv. Following a security alert, the train carrying Boris Johnson and other international leaders was evacuated.

Prominent figures—including former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, former CIA Director David Petraeus, and the German Chancellor's security advisor—along with European diplomats and officials, were on the train with Boris Johnson. The travel schedule was altered, and the train departed earlier than planned, due to a perceived risk of attack.

Russia had previously launched a drone strike targeting a passenger train and a locomotive on this route. However, eyebrows were raised this time as Russia not only resorted to the same tactics but went ahead targeting the diplomats despite knowing the consequences it could bring.

The attack took place near the NATO border. Reacting to the incident, Boris Johnson stated that ordinary citizens and railway workers face such senseless, random attacks daily. He also urged various nations to provide the necessary air defence systems to Ukraine.
