BEIJING: The world-famous glass bridge in China suffered a crack, raising concerns after a youngster stabbed on the glass with his umbrella in one lighter moment. The crack occurred on the glass bridge at the famous Baoquan Cliff World tourist attraction in China's Henan province. Authorities immediately evacuated tourists from the area as a safety precaution. Officials said no one was injured in the incident.
The bridge is located in a major tourist destination with a National 5A rating, the highest tourism status in China. The bridge is made of triple-laminated safety glass. Officials said that only the top layer of one panel was damaged when the teenager stabbed it with an umbrella. The lower layers were not damaged, and the bridge is safe. The officials have contacted the original manufacturer to replace the damaged glass panel. Meanwhile, other parts of the bridge are open to visitors.
Following the incident, discussions about the safety of glass bridges went abuzz on social media. Many were panicked, knowing that a simple umbrella could easily crack the glass bridge touted as herculean in strength. Following this, the authorities have appointed special staff to ensure that tourists do not carry sharp objects that could damage the glass.
