NEW DELHI: One Indian crew member was killed after Iran attacked two UAE oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz. Eight others were injured, including six Indians and two Ukrainian nationals. Four of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. The attack came after the United States carried out strikes in Tehran, prompting Iran to launch a retaliatory response.
The two tankers, Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, were hit by Iranian cruise missiles while passing through Omani waters.
In a statement, the UAE condemned the attack, calling it a violation of international law. The country said the strike poses a serious threat to regional security and stability. The UAE also stated that it has the full right to respond to the attack and to protect its national security, stability, and citizens.
Officials said the country is taking all necessary measures to counter any attempt to threaten its security and is prepared to deal with any future threats.
The latest escalation comes amid growing tensions between the United States and Iran over control of the Strait of Hormuz. The US Central Command said it has launched a new phase of military operations against Iran. US President Donald Trump warned that the United States would continue carrying out strong attacks on Iran and could impose fresh sanctions. He also claimed that the US controls the Strait of Hormuz and said tolls would be imposed on ships passing through the strategic waterway.
