WASHINGTON, D.C.: U.S. President Donald Trump has warned of a powerful military strike against Iran after announcing that the ceasefire agreement between the two countries has ended. He said the United States could launch a major attack later on Wednesday. Trump's warning came after Iran allegedly targeted U.S. military bases in the Gulf region. Iran, meanwhile, responded with a strong warning of its own.
Tehran said it would withdraw from all negotiations on a final agreement if the United States carried out another attack. It also threatened to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and warned that it would tighten restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's busiest shipping routes.
Speaking at the NATO Summit in Ankara on Wednesday, Trump said the United States had already launched a major attack on Iran and was prepared to strike again.
"Last night we hit them very hard. Very, very hard. We may hit them again today, even harder. I'll give them a little warning. We are going to hit them very hard tonight," Trump said.
He also warned that Iran's actions would have serious consequences.
"Iran is behaving very badly, and the consequences will be disastrous," he said.
Trump further accused Iran of carrying out drone and missile attacks on ships, calling the attacks "a very big mistake."
"Iran is creating a lot of trouble. My goal is to make sure they never have a nuclear weapon," he added.
