TEHRAN: The United States has intensified its airstrikes against Iran following an Iranian attack in Jordan killing two American soldiers. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) added that the operation was carried out under the direction of President Donald Trump.
According to CENTCOM, the objective is to weaken Iran's capability to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and to deliver a strong response to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which Washington holds responsible for the attack on US forces in Jordan. Iran's Mehr News Agency reported that US warplanes struck the southern port city of Sirik. Additional strikes were also reported in Hajjiabad, though no casualties have been reported.
The United States operates several military facilities in Jordan, including Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, where American troops work alongside Jordanian forces. Following the latest attack, the number of US soldiers killed in Iranian-linked attacks has reportedly risen to 16.
Meanwhile, Iran accused the United States of violating previous agreements. Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei warned that US would be taught a lesson it would never forget. He made the statement commemorating Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
