MOSCOW: Russia is all set to recruit foreign nationals for its war with Ukraine by offering a huge amount. The country has sharply increased the financial benefits offered to those recruited into the Russian military. Under the new decision, each foreign national who joins the Russian army will be offered up to 1.5 million rubles, equivalent to around Rs 16 lakh. This was reported by Russia’s independent media The Kyiv Independent.
The Irkutsk region of Russia is offering foreign nationals a highly well-paid opportunity to join the military. The new financial incentive was announced through an order signed earlier this week by Governor Igor Kobzev. Reports say that this is the highest amount ever offered by a Russian region to recruit foreign nationals into the Russian military.
The latest move comes amid a growing demand for soldiers for the war in Ukraine. Various regions across Russia have been increasing financial incentives for military recruitment. As part of this, the Irkutsk region has sharply raised the amount offered to foreign nationals willing to join the army. The increase in financial incentives is particularly significant as further evidence emerges that Russia is attempting to strengthen its military capabilities by recruiting foreign nationals, particularly from low-income countries.
Russia has intensified its aerial attacks against Ukraine over the past several weeks. Various weapons, including ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones, have been used in attacks carried out in different parts of the country. Ukrainian authorities have also reported Russian attacks in areas near the Polish border.
Meantime, Ukraine continues to carry out attacks on Russia’s oil industry. US President Donald Trump had urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop attacks on diesel production facilities in Russia. Trump alleged that such attacks could contribute to a global fuel shortage.
The war between Russia and Ukraine has continued for more than four years. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of numerous soldiers and caused serious injuries to many others.
