Zahra's portrait at the Ayatollah's funeral

TEHRAN: Thousands have been flocking to Tehran since yesterday for the funeral of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated by Israel. At the funeral, many eyes also fell into a baby coffin kept next to the bodies of Khamenei and other family members. Later, it was confirmed to be the coffin of Khamenei's 14-month-old granddaughter, Zahra Mohammadi Golpayegani. With this, people started searching more about her on social media, and the images proved to be heartbreaking.

The public viewing is taking place at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosque in Tehran. The coffins were brought to the public viewing venue in coffins draped in the Iranian national flag. A beautiful picture of Zahra was also kept next to the coffin, bringing tears to those coming to pay last respects.

For two days, the Iranian public has been allowed to pay their last respects to their leader. After a mourning procession through Tehran on Monday, Khamenei's body will be taken to five cities in neighbouring Iraq. On Thursday, the body will be buried in Khamenei's hometown of Mashhad. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family members were killed on February 28 in an attack carried out by Israel.
