'Theatre is not a place to have lunch or dinner'; Madhavan slams people who order food while watching movies in theatres

Actor R Madhavan has strongly criticised people who order and eat food while watching movies in theatres. He said those who want to eat food should go to a restaurant instead of coming to a cinema hall. Madhavan made the remarks while promoting his latest film GDN.

“These days, audiences set aside three hours of their time for a movie. A husband may like something that his wife does not, while children may want to watch Spider-Man. On top of all this, people also have the option of sitting in their seats and eating food. In my opinion, if you want to have lunch or dinner, you should go to a restaurant.”

Madhavan said ordering food during a movie and having it served at the seats can seriously affect the viewing experience.

“When someone orders food during a movie, and it is brought to their seats, it seriously affects the enjoyment of the film. If the movie also turns out to be bad after all this, it can make the audience even more frustrated.”

He recalled the way movies were reviewed in the past and compared it with the current trend of reviews appearing soon after, or even before, a film's release.

“I had waited for a week for the reviews of Alaipayuthey. By then, the audience would have decided the fate of the film. Today, reviews are out even before a movie reaches the theatres.”

Madhavan also said ordering food during a movie is as irritating as someone looking at their phone while sitting in the next seat. Several people supported the actor's views on the issue.

He added that sports and cinema are the two fields that ordinary people commonly judge directly. According to Madhavan, scientists, industrialists and other professionals are generally evaluated by experts in their respective fields.
