Mohanlal teams up with Jude Anthany Joseph for new film; collaboration comes at interesting time

Mohanlal and director Jude Anthany Joseph are teaming up for a new film, with the actor announcing the collaboration on Sunday. Sharing a photograph of himself with Jude on social media, Mohanlal wrote, “Delighted to share that I’ll be joining hands with Jude Anthany Joseph for an exciting new film next year! More details coming your way soon!”

The announcement comes at an interesting time for Jude, who is currently in the spotlight with Thudakkam. The film, which hit theatres on August 7, marks the acting debut of Mohanlal’s daughter Vismaya Mohanlal, with Jude at the helm. Mohanlal also makes an appearance in the film. Thudakkam has been performing strongly at the box office since its release.

Jude’s new collaboration with Mohanlal also follows recent headlines surrounding another project involving the veteran actor. The director had revealed that he walked away from a planned Hindi film featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Mohanlal after being told that Mohanlal’s role would be treated as “secondary casting”. Jude said the role was significant to the story and that he was uncomfortable with the way the actor was being positioned in the project.

Jude later clarified that his comments were directed at the producers and not Ayushmann. The director also met the actor recently, with Ayushmann praising Mohanlal and describing him as a legend.

The upcoming Mohanlal-Jude project, however, is still largely under wraps. Mohanlal’s announcement does not disclose the title, storyline, cast or release date, only confirming that the two will be joining hands for a new film next year.

For Jude, the collaboration marks a direct association with Mohanlal after Thudakkam, where he directed the actor’s daughter in her first film. The filmmaker had also previously indicated that he was working on a screenplay for a Mohanlal-led project.
