Another feather in the cap for Indian army; daring rescue operation at an altitude of 18,600 feet, video

LEH: The Indian Army carried out a daring rescue operation near the Nun Kun Mountain range in Ladakh, at an altitude of 18,600 feet above sea level. A person injured while trekking was airlifted by landing a helicopter on a steep, snow-covered mountain slope despite strong winds.

The rescue operation was extremely challenging due to the very low oxygen levels and reduced atmospheric pressure at the location. The operation was carried out on Saturday. A video of the Indian Army successfully completing the mission with only minutes of daylight remaining is now circulating on social media.

There were no landing platforms at the location where the helicopter had to land for the rescue. Strong winds and the steep, rocky terrain made the landing extremely difficult. However, the injured person was taken aboard the helicopter by carefully positioning it so that only one of its skids touched the rocky surface.

The daring rescue operation was carried out by keeping the helicopter's weight to a minimum. It was loaded only with the amount of fuel required for the mission. The identity and other details of the injured person have not been disclosed.
