NEW DELHI: N. Chandrasekaran will continue as the Chairman of Tata Sons (owned by the Tata Group). This decision comes ahead of the scheduled conclusion of his current term in February 2027.

Earlier, Chandrasekaran said he would not seek another term as Chairman once his current tenure ended. However, given the prevailing circumstances, the board decided to extend his tenure.

Chandrasekaran assumed the role of Chairman of Tata Sons in February 2017. His current five-year term is set to expire on February 20, 2027. With this extension, Chandra's realm of power will continue for a longer period.

Meanwhile, reports suggest differences of opinion within the Tata Trusts regarding Chandrasekaran's reappointment. It is reported that Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata opposed granting Chandrasekaran a new term; however, the Tata Sons board went for the decision. Indications suggest the final decision may also be subject to approval at the company's Annual General Meeting.

The Reserve Bank of India had previously classified Tata Sons as an 'upper-layer' non-banking financial company. With the RBI rejecting Tata Sons' request for an exemption from mandatory listing, the prospect of the company listing on the stock exchange has resurfaced. Reports indicate that the decision regarding Chandrasekaran's new term and the issue of Tata Sons' listing will be crucial for the company's future leadership and strategic decisions.
