BENGALURU: An attempt was made to attack a 26-year-old nurse with acid and hack her to death in public glare. The shocking incident took place this morning in JP Nagar, Bengaluru. The victim, Madhumita, a native of Kolkata and a nurse at a private hospital in the city, had been employed at the clinic for the past year and a half.
Her husband, Venkateshan—a native of Tamil Nadu—attempted the attack shortly after she stepped out of the hospital around 9:15 AM to get something to eat. Terrified, Madhumita ran towards the building's basement, which served as the clinic's parking area. Venkatesh chased her there, attacked her with a machete, and threw acid at her. Police stated that he had arrived at the hospital on a motorcycle earlier that morning, carrying a knife, a machete, and acid.
Hearing Madhumitha's screams, hospital staff and bystanders tried to intervene, but Venkatesh attacked them as well. The accused fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended by a traffic police officer present in the area. Madhumitha, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, remains under treatment. The JP Nagar police arrived at the location and took Venkatesh into custody. Local reports suggest that a family dispute triggered the attack. Police are interrogating the accused in detail, and the exact motive will be clarified only after the questioning is complete.
