
MUMBAI: Two minor boys have been arrested for stealing taps worth lakhs to buy iPhones for their girlfriends. The two stole luxury designer taps worth Rs 6.5 lakh and then they sold these taps for Rs 20,000.
The incident came to light after Rahul Jayachand Batra, owner of Rahul Ceramics Private Limited, a company that trades in tiles and sanitary ware, filed a complaint with the police. The incident happened on the night of May 27.
The boys removed tin sheets from the roof and gained access to the shop. Five gold-colored taps worth Rs 3,94,500, three gold-colored taps worth Rs 67,000, nine rose gold taps worth Rs 1,30,500 and four silver-colored taps worth Rs 58,000 were stolen.
The police, who registered a case on the complaint of Rahul Jayachand Batra, examined the footage from about 30 CCTV cameras installed at the spot and surrounding areas. The accused were arrested based on the confidential information provided by some people.
In addition to the two minors in the case, the police have also taken into custody Irfan Ali alias Immu Ramzan Ali, who bought the stolen goods. During interrogation, they confessed to committing the theft for money to buy iPhones for their girlfriends.
