MUMBAI: A 19-year-old woman is in a critical condition after surgical items were left inside her body during a C-section. surgery. The incident happened at the Beed District Hospital in Maharashtra. The woman has been identified as Sandhya Suraj Gaikwad.
The woman was subjected to the surgery on August 1 and was discharged after four days. Soon after reaching home, she developed severe abdominal pain and her family rushed her to a private hospital in Pune. A scan conducted detected surgical items in her body. An emergency surgery was conducted at Sassoon Hospital in Pune and the doctors removed the gloves and tissue wipes from her body.
On Tuesday, her family filed a complaint against the hospital. Sandhya’s mother said that her daughter was not even able to hold her newborn. Beed hospital superintendent Sathish Kumar Solanke said notices have been issued to the doctor and the staff involved in the surgery. He also assured strict action against the guilty.
