A disturbing video from Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam, triggered a discussion on social media platforms. A couple caught in the sea of devotees tried to escape the place, but little did they know what was coming their way. Instead of getting help, the duo faced humiliation and jeers. Some even threw bottles at the couple, adding to the insults.

Some unverified reports suggested that the woman felt short of breath while in the crowd and was trying to leave the premises with her partner when she faced insults and humiliation. This video triggered criticism on social media, with many requesting authorities to identify those who behaved in an uncouth manner towards the couple while at the temple premises.

In the video, the couple were seen navigating to a safe spot. Seeing the two walking, a few among the crowd booed at them while some threw water. A water bottle struck the woman on her head, and the pain was palpable on her face as she stopped walking and sat on the spot, crying. The male partner looked helpless, but was doing his best to comfort her despite being caught in a desperate situation.

The incident drew widespread criticism, putting to the forefront the paradox of how devotees waited to seek blessings from the shrine of the Goddess while hurling insults at another woman. Many also demanded better crowd management and facilities be arranged, considering the outpouring of devotees to the annual four-day Ambubachi Mela.
