SC asks CBSE to understand students' frustrations on digital marking system

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court said there are issues in CBSE's On Screen Marking (OSM) system. The Supreme Court added that CBSE should understand the frustrations of the students. The court's observation was while considering the pleas filed against the OSM system.

The frustrations of the students should be seen. The court also asked the CBSE not to take a stand unfavorable to the children. A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant also directed CBSE to inform the court about the steps taken so far to resolve the shortcomings in OSM.

The court also sought the help of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on CBSE's on-screen marking issue. Tushar Mehta informed the court that a one-member committee has been appointed to resolve the shortcomings in OSM evaluation and that the matter is being examined.

There have been widespread complaints among students about the on-screen marking system introduced for Class 12 evaluation since the last academic year. However, CBSE and the central government had indicated that OSM would be implemented in Class 10 this year as well. This sparked a major controversy. Following that, pleas were filed in the Supreme Court.
