CHENNAI: Legendary filmmaker and screenwriter Singeetham Srinivasa Rao passed away at Kaveri Hospital in Chennai on Saturday night. He was 94. He had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments.
Rao directed several acclaimed films, including Kamal Haasan-starrer Pushpaka Vimanam, which told its story without dialogues, Apoorva Sagodharangal, Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Magalir Mattum and Mumbai Xpress.
His final directorial venture, Sing Geetham, was made when he was 94. Released earlier this year, the film received widespread appreciation from the film industry and audiences. Known for his distinctive and innovative storytelling, Singeetham Srinivasa Rao was regarded as one of the finest filmmakers in Indian cinema. Several of his films went on to become timeless classics.
Aditya 369, which introduced the concept of time travel to Telugu cinema, and Bhairava Dweepam, a notable fantasy-folklore film, are among the works that showcased his directorial craft.
With his unconventional ideas and experimental storytelling, Singeetham Srinivasa Rao made an indelible mark on Indian cinema. His films continue to be remembered for their originality and timeless appeal.
