
BENGALURU: Two Malayali youngsters were arrested for creating unrest by attacking locals in Bengaluru's Electronic City Phase 2 area on Friday. Three people were injured after the two Malayali youngsters, brandishing knives, attacked locals, including a bus conductor.
The accused were later caught by locals and handed over to the police. A case has been registered under the charges of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to police, the two youngsters, purportedly under the influence of drugs, entered a private property owned by BMTC conductor Ramachandra. The retired official questioned the younsgters tresspassing in his property, which led to an altercation. The youngster then brandished a knife and stabbed Ramachandra several times before fleeing from the spot.
Locals, hearing the screams, arrived at the scene to witness the accused escaping. The duo tried to enter a cab and leave the spot, but the heavy traffic snarl in the area foiled their plan. The duo then ran to a bakery and started throwing glass bottles at locals who arrived to nab them.
Two people were injured in the glass bottle attack, while it is alleged that a youngster shouted amid the ruckus that he was from Kerala and asked fellow Malayalees to come to his aid. Soon, the locals subdued them both and informed the news to Parappana Agrahara police.
In the ensuing search, police found small packets from the youngsters' pockets which resembled drugs. An examination is ongoing. Meanwhile, Ramachandra is currently under treatment at a private hospital. Police are looking into the CCTV visuals to get more clarity on the case.
