PALAKKAD: A college student was killed and four others were seriously injured after a truck rammed into a group of students in Mundur, Palakkad, on Friday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Farhan, a second-year BCA student at Yuvakshetra College.
The accident occurred at around 2 pm near Ninth Mile. The truck, which was transporting hospital waste from Palakkad to Cherpulassery, reportedly lost control and crashed into the students. According to reports, four students of Yuvakshetra College were returning after offering Friday prayers at a nearby mosque when the accident took place. The truck veered off the road and hit the students, who were walking along the roadside. A local resident travelling along the roadside was also injured in the incident.
Mohammed Farhan was rushed to a private hospital in Olavakkode, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later shifted to the Palakkad District Hospital. The condition of the other injured students and the local resident is reported to be stable. Locals alleged that the stretch has witnessed several accidents in the past and claimed that repeated requests for safety measures have gone unanswered.
