Man accused in 11-year-old minor girl’s rape case killed in encounter

KOLKATA: One of the accused in the rape and murder case of a 11-year-old girl in West Bengal has been killed in an encounter. The dead is Prabhash Mondal, the main accused in the case.

The incident happened last night when the accused was brought to the crime spot to collect evidence. When the accused tried to escape by snatching the gun of the officers, the police opened fire on him. The police have arrested the other accused identified as Ananda Sardar, Dibakar Sardar and Kabir Mollah.

The girl, who had gone out to buy a birthday gift for her friend last Saturday, later went missing. Following this, the family filed a complaint with the police and started an investigation. Her body was found in a sack from a pond in the Suryapur Hat area. A postmortem conducted later revealed that the child had been brutally tortured.

According to the information received during the investigation, Prabhash Mondal took the girl to an isolated place. After committing the crime with two other accused who were waiting there, he put the girl in a sack and threw her into the pond. The doctors stated that the child was alive at that time. The postmortem report states that the cause of death was excessive bleeding and water entering the lungs due to head injuries. The postmortem report also shows that the victim suffered severe injuries to her private parts and was bitten on various parts of her body.

Following the incident, widespread protests are being staged in the area. Angry locals have vandalised railway tracks and police vehicles. So far, around 200 people have been booked in the violence unleashed in various parts of Kolkata. The police have received CCTV footage of the four taking the child away. A youth named Indrajit Mondal was beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of being involved in the rape. The police suspect that the accused are also involved in this incident.
