NEW DELHI: After hours of high drama and tense confrontations, police released Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and MP Priyanka Gandhi, whom they had earlier detained and brought to the police station.
A major standoff ensued outside the Barakhamba police station following Rahul Gandhi's detention. Party workers, MPs, and leaders gathered to protest. Leaders such as V.D. Satheesan, Revanth Reddy, K.C. Venugopal (MP), and Left MPs were initially prevented from entering the station premises. They were allowed inside only after prolonged arguments. The police forcibly removed the party workers who had gathered outside, following which Rahul and Priyanka were released.
Meanwhile, indications suggest that Congress will continue with strong protests on Thursday too. K.C. Venugopal stated that they would consider staging further protests tomorrow. Rahul Gandhi had also remarked that the agitation would continue until Gyanesh Kumar resigns. At the same time, V.D. Satheesan expressed Kerala's support for the opposition's protest, stating that he was proud to participate in the agitation.
