Sonam Wangchuk ready to end hunger strike if three conditions are met 

NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been protesting for almost a month demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the question paper leak of exams including NEET. Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike with them for more than 20 days, was taken to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police on Saturday. Sonam Wangchuk is now giving an indication that he is ready to end the hunger strike. In a note shared on X, he has put forward three demands indicating that he is ready to do so.

The first is that the hunger strike can be ended if the central government takes responsibility for the lapses in the education system, especially the NEET exam question paper leak.

Wangchuk said that he and the CJP leaders will hold a parliamentary march in front of Parliament today and if MPs and leaders of various parties promise to present the issue in Parliament, he will end his hunger strike.

Third is that if his health does not allow it, the same MPs and leaders should reach the hospital where he is admitted and promise to take up the issue and present it in Parliament. Wangchuk said in the note that he is being illegally detained in the hospital and his freedom of movement and speech are being restricted.

The Delhi High Court, which heard Wangchuk's hospital discharge plea the other day, did not issue an interim order. The court, which examined his medical report at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, asked Wangchuk to cooperate with the doctors.

The court, in a special sitting held yesterday, issued notices to the central government and Delhi Police on a petition filed by Wangchuk's wife Geetanjali Angmo seeking to shift him to a private hospital. Justice Mini Pushkarna directed them to file their replies on the matter within three days. The case will be heard again on July 24.
