AGALI: Three people were killed after a car lost control and fell into a gorge near the Tamil Nadu border at Mulli in Attappady. The deceased were identified as Raj Kannan (54), T.D. Bhojan (70), and his daughter Radhika (55), from Bengal Mattam in Kundah taluk of Tamil Nadu's Nilgiris district.
Raj Kannan was driving the car. The accident occurred around 3 pm on Sunday. The car fell into a gorge about 500 feet deep near the Tamil Nadu border. The vehicle lost control near the Chenkuttappuzha river, known as Villuppuzha, hit a rock on the riverbank and plunged into the gorge.
The accident occurred while the group was returning after visiting the house of a relative who had died. Police said the deceased had no direct connection with Attappady. After being informed about the accident, Mulli police and Attappady Pudur police reached the spot and led the rescue operation. The bodies of all three people were recovered from the car. They were carried for about 750 metres across the river before being brought to the road. The bodies were taken to the government hospital in Mettupalayam.
