Teen steals gold necklace to gift boyfriend new bike, arrested

POLLACHI: A college student was arrested after she admitted to stealing nine sovereigns of gold from a house. The incident took place in Sangampalayam near Pollachi in Tamil Nadu. The police launched a search for the student's boyfriend. The second-year B.Com student of the Government Arts College was arrested in the incident. The student had reached her father’s friend Tamilshelvan's house in Unjavelampatti on the 16th of last month.

Following her return, Tamilshelvan filed a complaint with the police that the nine-sovereign-worth gold necklace kept in the cupboard of the house was missing. When the police took the student into custody and questioned her, she confessed to having stolen the gold kept in the cupboard and selling it in the city for Rs 2.5 lakh. The police also found that the student used this money to buy a new two-wheeler for her boyfriend, Janakan Siva (25), a native of Makinampatti.
