MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff sustained injuries in a firing incident in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, with photographs showing bandages on his arm and dressings on his shoulder and chest emerging after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited him at home.
Shinde visited the actor’s residence on Sunday night to enquire about his health. Photographs from the meeting showed Shroff with a large bandage on his arm and dressings covering wounds on his shoulder and chest. His father, veteran actor Jackie Shroff, and his mother, Ayesha Shroff, were also present, according to reports.
The firing took place as Shroff was returning after playing football. Police said unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at his vehicle in Juhu. Five rounds were reportedly fired, according to police and Shinde. Shroff did not suffer any gunshot wounds, although he sustained injuries. His driver, identified in reports as Firdosh, suffered a gunshot injury to his left hand. Another person, identified in reports as an autorickshaw driver, was also injured. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
Reacting to the incident, Shinde condemned the firing and said the government would not tolerate attempts to intimidate people through threats or violence, irrespective of which gang was responsible. “No one’s muscle power will work in Mumbai. We will not allow anyone to establish dominance through threats and violence. This is a serious incident. Five rounds were fired. Fortunately, he is safe. His driver was injured. I condemn the incident,” Shinde said, according to reports.
Meanwhile, an audio message that surfaced after the shooting claimed responsibility for the attack in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The message also threatened members of the film industry who continued to work with actor Salman Khan. A speaker who identified himself as Anil Pandit alleged that Shroff had ignored warnings from the Bishnoi gang and continued working with Salman Khan, prompting the attack.
However, police have not verified the authenticity of the responsibility claim or established the gang’s involvement. The alleged motive, as stated in the audio message, remains an unverified claim.
