Two dead, five injured after Ganapati idol falls during procession in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Two people died and several others, including two children, were injured after a Ganapati idol fell during a procession in South Mumbai. The incident happened Saturday night at around 10 pm on Balaram Merchant Road near Kabutarkhana in Jai Ambe Chowk in Bhuleshwar. The huge idol fell during it arrival function. The injured were taken to a hospital after a rescue operation led by the fire brigade and police.


The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals, but lives of the two could not be saved. The dead has been identified as Sanket Nevshe (33) and Brijesh Hemant Joshi (30). Vaibhav Ghenand (38), Pawan Chaurasia (25), Kunal Kashid (26), Lavanya Ganer (5) and Divya Ganer (7) are those injured. The civil authorities said the condition of all the five injured is stable. The tragic incident happened when the city was gearing up for the 10-day Ganesh festival.
