TALIPARAMBA: A police officer was arrested for stealing mobile phones and money from a temple offering box in Kannur. Vipin Kumar (40), hailing from Vellora Madam in Puthiyankavu, Payyannur, was arrested in the incident. He is a police officer currently facing dismissal proceedings for dereliction of duty. The arrest relates to cases involving the theft of mobile phones from devotees visiting the Trichambaram Sree Krishna Temple, Kanhirangad Vaidyanatha Temple, and Taliparamba Rajarajeshwara Temple.
Police recovered three mobile phones and Rs 6,000 from him. Previously, the Payyannur police had registered a case against Vipin Kumar for stealing a mobile phone in Annur. He had been suspended from service—while posted at the Kumbala police station in Kasaragod—for failing to report for duty regularly.
