Two dead, five missing after boat capsizes in Ganga River near Patna

PATNA: A tragic boat accident on the Ganga River left at least two people dead and five others missing on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at the Umanath Ganga Ghat in the Patna district, with officials fearing the death toll could rise as search operations continue.
According to local authorities, the mishap was triggered by sudden strong winds that caused the vessel to capsize. Eyewitnesses reported that there were approximately 14 passengers on board at the time of the accident.
Local residents who witnessed the boat overturning immediately launched a rescue effort, pulling several passengers from the water and transporting them to safety using another boat. Thanks to their swift intervention, seven individuals were successfully rescued.
Emergency responders have recovered two bodies so far, while a search is underway for the five passengers who remain unaccounted for. Speaking on the incident, Barh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ramakrishna stated that teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are deploying to the site to intensify the search and rescue operation.
