
NEW DELHI: The VB-G RAM G scheme, introduced by the Modi government to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, will come into effect from July 1. The Centre has allocated Rs 1.25 lakh crore for the scheme. Kerala has been allocated Rs 3136.44 crore. The remaining 40 per cent, Rs 2090.96 crore, has to be found by the state. The allocation for the states has been approved.
The scheme will be implemented in 2.80 lakh gram panchayats. 60 per cent will be borne by the Centre and 40 per cent by the state. The implementation of the scheme was discussed at a high-level meeting chaired by Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday. Ministers of states and union territories participated through video conferencing. The Union Minister explained that the scheme is to give a new impetus to rural employment, labour safety and overall development of villages. No worker should have to go without work even for a day. There should be no hindrance in creating employment opportunities or paying wages. It was also directed that the states should issue notifications clarifying the agricultural harvest period and seasons.
