PANAJI: Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar passed away Thursday morning after suffering a cardia arrest. He was 75. The actor was found unconscious at his residence at Dona Paula in Goa. He was then rushed to the hospital but his life could not be saved. The doctors declared him dead early morning at 5.20 am.
The actor who has acted in Tamil, Hindi and Marathi films is a recipient of three national film awards. Apart from films, the actor was active in relief work for farmers. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013.
Nana Patekar established the NAAM Foundation in 2015 after witnessing the severe drought and the suicides of farmers in Maharashtra. Through this foundation, financial assistance was provided to thousands of affected farmers' families. He gained immense popularity through his splendid performances in films like Parinda, Ankush, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Natsamrat, and Welcome. Nana Patekar has also acted alongside actor Rajinikanth in the Tamil film Kaala.
He was born on January 1, 1951, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. His real name is Vishwanath Patekar. He leaves behind his wife Neelkanti Patekar and son Malhar Patekar.
