19-year-old tourist stabbed in Varkala; hospitalized

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 19-year-old tourist identified as Sudarshan of Thamarankottai in Thanjavur was stabbed in Varkala. Three people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. The incident happened Monday night at 10.45 pm.

Sudarshan was one among the 14-member team from Thanjavur. A fight broke out when the team were going to the hotel from Varkala Cliff. A verbal dispute broke out between the assailants and the team. Soon they assaulted Sudarshan and then Muhammed Ali, the first accused stabbed him with the knife he had in his hand. Apart from Muhammed Ali, Ananthan and Jerin are the other accused in the case. The tourism police who reached the spot after the incident followed and caught them. They have been handed over to the Varkala Police.

The police along with the locals rushed Sudarshan to the hospital. The condition of the youth is stated to be stable. The police informed that the investigation is progressing in the case.
