PALAKKAD: The suspect in the murder of a woman and her child in Attappadi has been arrested. The accused, Pravat Das, a native of West Bengal, was taken into custody by a special investigation team.
Police said Pravat Das has confessed to the crime. However, he told investigators that the woman he killed was not his wife and that he had known her for only two months. Police have not yet revealed the exact motive behind the murders. The special investigation team travelled from Palakkad to West Bengal and arrested Das from there.
The accused had been living with the woman for the past two months. The bodies of the woman and the child were found packed in sacks and dumped in the Bhavani River. Police suspect that the murders took place near the river.
According to the post-mortem report, the woman died after suffering a deep injury to her head. The child was allegedly strangled to death. The accused then cut the bodies into pieces, packed them in sacks and dumped them in the river. Police said Das is being questioned in detail to establish the exact circumstances and motive behind the double murder.
