Beat in font of father, dragged by hair, woman complains against husband, in-laws

ALAPPUZHA: A woman has complained of dowry harassment against her husband and in-laws at Thrikkunnappuzha in Alappuzha. The police have registered a case against her husband Nithin and his family following the complaint of Rehna of Alappuzha. She also handed over video footage to the police showing her being dragged on the floor during the argument.

Rehna alleged that even days after she filed the complaint, neither her husband nor his family were summoned to the police station. She further alleged that the police agreed to investigate the case only after the district police chief intervened. Rehna said that she was beaten in front of her father and that her husband and mother-in-law together attacked her brutally. She also alleged that she was grabbed by her hair and dragged away. Her revelations were to a private media.

‘I called the police station from the hospital to inquire about the case. The response of the police was very bad. The officers told me, did you really think that if you filed a complaint, would summon them to the station and remand them? The officers said this is just a case where a notice needs to be issued.

They will open their eyes only when girls die due to dowry harassment? If I had died, they would have taken action. I have suffered so much. Where should I go now to seek action against those who harassed me?’ asked Rehna.

Meantime, the police have explained that there was only a delay in carrying out the preliminary procedures required in dowry harassment cases.
