KOZHIKODE: A series of thefts and attempted burglaries were reported in Koyilandy, Kozhikode, with 12 sovereigns of gold stolen from a house at Poyilkavu and cash and a mobile phone taken from Chemancheri railway station. The incidents occurred at different locations last night.

The gold was stolen from the house of Karunakaran at Poyilkavu. The thief broke open the grill to gain entry into the house. A similar burglary attempt was reported at Panayi, Pookkad. The thief tried to break into a house, but the attempt was foiled after the occupants woke up.

The theft at Chemancheri railway station took place after an employee locked the ticket counter and left for home. The thief stole cash kept at the counter and a mobile phone used for official purposes.

Police suspect that the same gang was behind all the incidents. A forensic team and fingerprint experts visited the locations and conducted inspections. Police said they would examine CCTV footage, including recordings from the railway station premises, to identify and arrest the thieves soon.
