THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress MP Rajmohan Unnithan has strongly criticised UDF convener Adoor Prakash for his criticisms against the chief minister. Unnithan said that he thought Adoor Prakash was calling the press meet to question the attacks by left parties against Congress workers. He said it was inappropriate for the UDF convener, whose responsibility is to create a defence when the UDF government is under attack and to counter those attacking it, to call the press meet to criticise the chief minister.
‘Yesterday was not an appropriate day for the UDF convener, who is responsible for creating a defence when the UDF government is under attack and for launching a
counterattack against those carrying out the attacks, to choose to convene the press meet. What he did was unbecoming of the post he holds. He himself said that he was appointed by the high command. In that case, why couldn’t he approach the high command and suggest that a UDF meeting be convened? Why couldn’t he take his complaint to the high command?
What K C Venugopal said is right? If things that should be discussed within the party and in party forums are instead brought up at the press meet, is that befitting the dignity of the post he holds? Isn’t there something inappropriate about it?’ asked Rajmohan Unnithan.
He also responded to the allegations being levelled against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A complaint sent to the Cabinet Secretary was filed by two members of the Election Commission. Naturally, the Election Commission is an institution that is expected to function impartially, independently and transparently.
In the past, the Election Commission was appointed through a process involving the Prime Minister, the leader of the opposition and the Chief Justice of India. But the chief justice was removed from that panel and replaced with union minister nominated by the Prime Minister. In short, making the leader of the opposition a mere spectator, the Prime Minister and a minister chosen by him control the Election Commission,' he added.
