‘Had to obey higher official’s directions; Grade SIs burst into tears in front of SIT

ALAPPUZHA: Grade sub inspectors broke down before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the case of gunmen beating up Youth Congress workers protesting during the Nava Kerala Yatra. The grade inspectors gave statements to the SIT that they were only following the instructions of a higher official. Sub inspectors Girish and Sreekumar gave statements against ADGP M R Ajith Kumar.

The statements of the SIs were taken in the investigation into the editing of the first report in the incident of the beating of Youth Congress workers by gunmen. The team led by SP Shoukathali questioned them from 10.15 pm last night to 10.30 am this morning.

The court will consider the anticipatory bail plea of the gunmen today. A special investigation report opposing the bail plea has been submitted to the SIT court. The report was submitted including the statements of the SIs. An explanation has been given for the inclusion of IPC 308 against the gunmen. The SIT report states that 308 was added based on expert advice. The report was prepared after seeking the opinion of doctors including those on the medical board. The statement of the ADGP has not been recorded at present. The SIT is moving to prepare a detailed report including the statement of the ADGP in the next stage of the investigation.
