THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala strongly criticized former DGP and BJP councilor in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, R Sreelekha, for her remarks that Operation Toofan is fake. He said she should think whether it is appropriate for someone who had served as DGP to make such statements. Chennithala while talking to the media asked her to withdraw her remarks and apologize.

‘What has happened to Sreelekha? She is someone who had served as the DGP. Is it right for her to speak like this? Shouldn’t she consider the post she once held? It is wrong to make baseless allegations about the functioning of the Kerala Police.

The people of Kerala, irrespective of their political affiliations, are supporting Operation Toofan, which was launched on June 2. Public support and participation are crucial in the fight against drug abuse. Statements that create a false impression about the functioning of the Kerala Police cannot be accepted.

Sreelekha should also withdraw her remarks against Rahul Gandhi and apologize. She resigns one day and then withdraws it. She seems to have some serious issue.
The home minister also strongly criticized Delhi Police' action against NSU leader Athira.

‘The conduct of the Delhi Police was extremely bad. Athira was brutally assaulted, and she has injuries all over her body. Her clothes were torn. Even after a complaint was filed, the authorities concerned failed to pay attention. Athira subsequently sent her complaint to me and the state police chief.

The Museum Police have registered an FIR based on Athira's complaint. We are examining the legal options available to take further action in the matter,’ the minister said.

Chennithala also stated that participating in protests and demonstrations is not a criminal act. He said the right to protest is fundamental in democracy and that any assault on an individual or the failure to address a complaint filed in connection with such protests must be treated as a serious matter.
