PAYYANNUR: A 24-year-old bride-to-be who went missing from a counselling centre was found dead in a river after jumping into it. The deceased has been identified as C. Shruthi, a native of Mukkoodu in Kanayi, Payyannur. She was the daughter of the late Chandran and Janaki and worked at a mall in Payyannur.

Shruthi had reached a counselling centre at Koorkkara in Korom around 4 pm on Monday. She was accompanied by her aunt Sulekha, her fiancé Akhil and his uncle Suresh. The marriage had been fixed four months ago. While speaking to the counsellor, Shruthi went outside, took her scooter and left without informing anyone. When she failed to return home by night, her uncle M. Sreedharan lodged a complaint with the Payyannur police.

Later on Monday night, Shruthi's scooter was found near Thanal Eco Park on Rotary Club Road in Chittarikkoval. Her footwear was also found nearby, raising suspicions that she had jumped into the river. Following this, a search was launched in the Perumba-Chittarikkoval area with the help of a scuba team from the Payyannur Fire Station. The search continued on Monday night and resumed on Tuesday morning. Her body was recovered from the river near Thanal Eco Park at 11.15 am on Tuesday. She is survived by her sister Sreelakshmi.
